Consuelo Kanaga (1894 - 1978)
American photographer and writer;
her speciality was artistic photographs of African-Americans;
her photos were often printed in progressive publications in the 1930s and1940s;
in the 1960s, she became very active in civil rights, taking part in and
photographing many demonstrations and marches;
she has been called "one of America's most transcendent yet,
surprisingly, least-known photographers."
Consuelo Kanaga's best-known image is
"She Is a Tree of Life to Them" (1950)
as seen in yesterday's post on this blog.
I'm glad you followed up yesterday's post with the photographer. She definitely should be better known!
