mathematician Katherine Johnson in Hidden Figures (2016)
and Shug Avery in The Color Purple (2023);
nominated for an Oscar, a Tony, and many Emmies,
she has won one Golden Globe for her Empire role;
an outspoken advocate about ongoing pay disparities
between white and black actors in Hollywood.
