Anne Carson (1950 - )
Canadian-Icelandic poet, essayist, translator, and professor
of classics, comparative literature, and creative writing.
She currently divides her time between
Reykjavik, Iceland and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Her work has been honoured with many prestigious awards,
including the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature for
"her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue
with the classical tradition, has created
new forms for contemporary literature."
"She is a writer of the great fires — love, fury, grief — but
also of the quotidian. She amuses and shatters,” her agent,
Nicole Aragi, told the New York Times in a statement.

Well, she was a woman, can't have them getting tenure, or they'd never leave! Princeton in the 80s. Also not much changed now. Interesting that she doesn't live in Canada. Work probably governs location.
ReplyDeleteOhhh
ReplyDeleteIt does not surprise me that academia snubbed her.
XOXO
I don't read much 'serious' literature, so the name of the Nobel prize winner is always unknown to me.
ReplyDeleteI hope there is a run on her books following this monumental win! And, screw you, Princeton!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I didn't know of her until now.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever read anything by Anne Carson. I must look for her work and learn more about her.
ReplyDeleteLove,
