she competed from 1999 to 2007 and retired undefeated
after holding several female super middleweight
and light heavyweight titles;
her father Muhammad Ali opposed her choice of career
but supported her decision eventually.
She kept her looks, as he did! He used to describe his as the prettiest face in boxing! I remember his worrying about her choice of sport. But when she kept winning, he did come around.

🤔 Dad could also have been worried about the horrible exploitation of boxers behind the scenes, including outright theft of their prize fight money! Laila Ali does credit her father with teaching her to pay attention to her money and to pay it forward to others who are in need.

She was an amazing boxer. And, yes, like her father, the prettiest boxer of the day. In some ways she is the essence of Girl Power.
ReplyDeleteI loved Muhammad Ali but he was pretty old skool in his beliefs. Glad he accepted his daughter's life choices in the end.
