Louise Bourgeois (1911 - 2010)
French-American artist of sculpture,
installation art, painting and printmaking;
Known for abstract expressionism,
surrealism and feminism in her art;
One of her best-known sculptures is
of a pregnant spider entitled Maman (1999),
here pictured at the National Gallery of Canada.
I know her work but had never seen her face. And what a wonderful face!
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or is there a certain beauty about those lines on her face? Every one of them seems to tell a story.
ReplyDelete@ LL Cool Joe -- I agree completely! We need to embrace the beauty of wrinkles. "A face without wrinkles is like a book without words."
DeleteSo true!
ReplyDeleteI love her work! I wrote a paper about her work in college.
ReplyDelete@ e -- How cool! I never heard of her until I saw "Maman" in Ottawa a few years ago.
