Serena Williams (1981 - )
American former professional tennis star;
holder of 39 major titles — 23 in singles,
14 in women's doubles, and 2 in mixed doubles;
winner of Olympic singles gold at the 2012 London Olympics;
with her sister Venus, winner of 3 Olympic gold medals
in women's doubles (2000, 2008, and 2012)
regarded as one of the best female tennis players of all time;
involved in many business interests, including fashion.
I'd say simply one of the best tennis players, not just women! But my bias may be showing.
ReplyDelete@ Boud -- You make an excellent point.
DeleteI kind of figured you'd feature Serena after your Venus post.
ReplyDelete@ Kathy G -- Yes, the Williams sisters are a matched set!
DeleteAnother goddess.
ReplyDeleteVenus and her are absolutely fantastic. And I don't even understand a lot about tennis!!
XOXO
I'm glad you gave them each their own entry. They are two powerful, successful and amazing women - alone or together.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about some of the women that paved the way for ladies tennis to be as popular as it is today. I went to Wimbledon last year, actually just before I got really ill, and I saw Billie Jean King in the Royal Box. What an icon she is. Oh and sitting almost next to her was Martina Navratilova. Actually seeing them was much more exciting than the game. :D
ReplyDelete@ LL Cool Joe -- What a celeb sighting! This blog featured Billie Jean King as our Beautiful Woman of the Day on October 3, 2024. Martina will be in the lineup later this year!
